Wine Library TV

Wine Library TV is a great resources for anyone who is confused about wine, or is a novice, or even an experience wine drinker.  The first thing you notice about the Wine Library TV site is that full-featured doesn’t begin to describe it.  In only 10 months, the site has links to add the feed to any type of RSS reader, digg links, a Squidoo lens, a very descriptive spreadsheet of all the wines tasted on WLTV and a very active forum.

The man that makes the show is Gary Vaynerchuk,  the 30-year old Director of Operations of the Wine Library.  If you go through the archives and watch the show evolve, three things will become very clear.  First, the show started off very well, with pretty good production values.  Secondly, the learning curve was very quick for the guys behind WLTV.  If you watch the first episode vs. the 18th episode, on decanting, you’ll notice that it’s a night and day difference.  If you go from the 1st show to the 150th show, which is a matchup of First Growth Bordeauxs, you’ll be amazed at how much different the show is.  And that leads to the third thing: Gary’s passion for wine and his drive to help people enjoy their wine drinking experience more shines through, even in the first episode, but especially now, in the later episodes, as he has grown very comfortable in front of the camera.

It’s very clear that the blog was launched by a group of people who knew exactly what they were doing, and who had researched what makes a successful blog.  Interaction is not only available but stressed.  And most importantly, FREQUENT UPDATES!  There’s a new episode almost every week day.  That’s a shock especially given that what’s being put out there is not just a few paragraphs of drivel, but a 20 minute TV show.  You can easily imagine that given multiple takes, this could easily be a great show on the Food Channel.  Gary presents wine in a way that makes it accessible to people who would be overwhelmed by the 40,000 sq. ft. of wine that is the Wine Library (a facility I hope to visit one day).

It’s an engaging, daily show that gives great ideas about what to drink, how to drink it, and presents it all with a heavy dose os irreverance, and certainly a site I’ll be checking every weekday.
